The Philippine Senate passed a resolution posthumously on 9 Sept honoring Dr.George S.K.Ty for his philanthropic contributions to the country.

"Dr. Ty trail-blazed the way to corporate compassion and social responsibility and established the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI) as an instrument to share the benefits of Metrobank's success” Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon, who introduced Senate Resolution No. 87, said.

According to the resolution, MBFI, under Ty, has become one of the biggest and most trusted corporate philanthropic organizations in the country and implements various initiatives in pursuit of its mission to improve the lives of the disadvantaged, accelerate social development, and promote excellence among the key sectors of our society.

Through the Metrobank Scholarship Program, more than 1,000 underprivileged youth have earned college degrees in Education, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, and Architecture. MBFI also provides financial and in-kind assistance to socio-civic and non-government organizations, as well as local and national government agencies through the Grants and Social Development Partnerships of MBFI.

MBFI selects outstanding teachers, soldiers and police who selflessly serve the Philippine people beyond their duties as "outstanding Filipinos" annually, which recognized by the Philippine Senate.
